After a seven years hiatus pop goddesses The Veronicas are back with a bite, releasing their third self titled album earlier this week.
The first single to be lifted of the album “You Ruin Me” is a hauntingly beautiful ballad which shot straight to number one in their native of Australia but don’t worry The Veronicas haven’t turned their back on the angsty pop that made us fall in love with them in the first place.
Dripping with attitude “I’m A Veronica” sounds like it could have fit perfectly on their “Hook Me Up” album. This track will definitely have you on the dance floor with its mashup of electra-synth, pop and….uhhh dub step.
Grunge-tastic “Sanctified” is a no brainer for their next single jam packed with rocky guitar hooks, it’s remiscent of 2014 pop darling Charli XCX.
The twins shift gears for the dreamy “You and Me” a sweet melody with a folky twang depicting their childhood in Brisbane.
But the stand out track is definitely breakup anthem “Cruel” a groovy little number that has a rock undertone. (Abigail Breslin take note, this is how diss tracks are written).
Welcome back The Veronicas we have missed you.
The 5SOS cuties (who are still soldiering on without Ashton) have been discussing “You Suck” while sitting down with Shazam in Australia.
Presenter Ash London echoed the feelings of the entire 5SOS Fam when she went into protective lioness mode even threatening to jump on a plane to get even with Abigail Breslin (seriously Ash you are like my spirit animal).
However unlike the rest of us, the boys remained totally chilled with Luke even chiming in that he co-wrote the song. Tut tut Luke we know you didn’t write the track, it’s clearly originated from a twelve year old girl’s journal.
Michael did have just one question for Abigail though, channelling Mariah Carey, he sang:
“Why are you so obsessed with me?”
Ummm Mikey I could totally give you like 101 reasons why…and that’s just off the top of my head.
This is 5secondsofblogging brand new shiny feature in which I ramble, rant and generally rave about a band or artist who I am crushing on, this week the honour goes to Adelaide’s ‘At Sunset’.
Yup Australia have cranked out yet another pop punk band (I’m not sure if my mental faculties are equipped to handle this information) who have notched up a pretty nifty 5 million views on YouTube.
The trio are made up of Tom Jay Williams and brothers Harrison and Andrew Kantarias *wow that’s some impressive DNA* who put their own spin on popular chart hits as well as penning their own songs.
But don’t be fooled these boys may be covering the likes of 1D and The Wanted but they are definitely not following the boyband suit, tracks such as “Rush” sounds like a fusion of Blink 182 and NSYNC but somehow it works. Actually it more than works, it rocks.
So if you like infectiously catchy pop beats with a rock flare and some of the most epic fringe flicks I have ever witnessed (and that’s quite the achievement) check them out on their YouTube channel At Sunset – Official.
Michael finally addressed the scathing “You Suck” track by actress turned squealer Abigail Breslin.
Speaking to NOVA 96.9 FM, Mikey claimed that he hasn’t spoken to her in a year before pointing out the eerily similarities between the subject in the Zombieland actress’s song and himself then Luke interjected with:
“We don’t know for sure it’s about Michael. It could be anyone, really.”
Ahhhh the naivety of youth, it’s obviously about Mikey unless he has a doppelganger running about (and if you are that doppelganger my number is 07875700968 CALL ME ANYTIME).
However Michael said this whole debacle has taught him a valuable lesson – that dying his hair could result in a bald Michael and that’s just something the world is not ready for!
The 5SOS boys minus the spaghetti haired one (get well soon Ashton!) had a night of debauchery at their “Q and Hey” live stream for Channel V. Here at 5secondsofblogging we present the best bits of the night.
Michael Clifford, the new princess of pop
The magical creature that is Michael Clifford treated us to a visual delight as he lip synced Britney Spears (how punk rock of you Mikey!!) and did some questionable albeit feisty dance moves. (PS your cuteness almost distracted us from your epic fall, almost).
The rare sight of a flat haired Luke
Luke drew the short straw to get dunked, looking adorable in the process might we add, presumably because if it had been Michael, the set would probably have looked like an outtake from Carrie.
Ashton still managed to be a sass monster from bed
While snuggling up in bed ill with a tub of hagaan dazs devouring Nicholas Sparks movies (oh…apparently that’s just me) Ashton tweeted his reaction to the whole livestream…and let’s be honest we were all thinking the exact same thing.
Calum’s perfectly crafted answer to the selfie question
Frustratingly the “Q and Hey” livestream has not been uploaded to YouTube yet but you can still relieve the best bits on vine OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!
Yes we are talking about the cute little squishy girl from Definitely, Maybe.
Abigail Breslin has just debuted her first ever single “You Suck” bashing the 5SOS cutie Michael Clifford after going on one date with him, I repeat ONE date.
The My Sister’s Keeper actress rants:
“I said you sound like All Time Low, you really don’t, even though you try hard, I hate the scar above your eye, it looks like you’re on drugs / And you really need to learn to wash your hair / Overall, you’re not a catch, you’re just a dumbass / Bleaching your hair, I hope it all falls out.”
Clearly trying to gain media buzz to launch her pop career Breslin left the harshest lyric for the
end of the song screeching:
“And thanks for the tickets to your show / I just wanted you to know all your bandmates are hotter than you.”
The 18 year old tried to defend her song in the latest issue of Teen Vogue claiming that ‘You Suck’ was a track that she wrote “in the heat of the moment” about boys who don’t respect females…ummm I only see one person who is being disrespectful and it’s you Abigail!!!
5 Seconds of Summer crush it on their home turf of Australia winning Song of the Year at the 28th Annual Australian Recording Industry Awards for “She Looks So Perfect”.
The pop punk foursome proved just why “She Look So Perfect” drove us into a frenzied state this year (not to mention explain our drawer full of American Apparel underwear) when they opened the ARIAs with an electrifying performance of the track.
However the real gem of the 2014 ARIAs was Mikey’s reaction upon hearing that 5SOS had just scooped up the award from composed rocker to exuberant puppy dog. Michael Gordon Clifford you are just too cute for words.
Watch the adorable transformation at https://vine.co/v/O1xM09eElPE
Congratulations boys, 5SOS are one step closer to world domination.
