Why Hayley Williams is my Role Model

Inspiring a generation of girls to don orange hair, Hayley Williams seems like just about everyone’s role model but on a more personal note she is mine. Here are three reasons why featuring quotes from the lady herself:

Hayley doesn’t use her style to impress other women or grab the attention of the male species (which it does anyway) but as an extension of her personality. In an image driven society it’s refreshing to see someone who dresses to please themselves.

An avid supporter of the self injury charity ‘To Write Love On Her Arms’, mental health awareness is clearly something that the 25 year old holds close to her heart and anyone who makes the brave decision to talk about their struggles with mental illness is a hero to me.

The pint sized singer has never let anyone sway her from her vision. In 2010 the Farro brothers left Paramore amidst rumours they disagreed with the new poppy direction Paramore was heading in but Hayls didn’t let this destroy the band which she has poured her heart into since her teen years, and in 2013 Paramore returned with their fourth album aptly called “Paramore” which became their biggest and best selling album to date.

It’s no wonder Hayley Williams is this year’s first ever Trailblazer Award winner at the Billboard Women In Music Awards.

Hayley Williams To Receive The First Ever Trailblazer Award

Paramore’s Hayley Williams will be honoured for her contribution to the music industry with the first ever Trailblazer Award at this year’s ninth annual Billboard Women In Music Awards.

The Trailblazer Award has been created to recognise a standout female artist who defies convention to make a unique mark in music and pave the way for other talent.

Ever since Paramore burst onto the mainstream music scene with 2007’s Riot, lead singer Hayley Williams has captivated the nation with her distinctive brand of pop punk, she is clearly a worthy winner on this merit alone.

However Hayley has not only had both commercial and critical success with Paramore but has also evolved into a solo artist contributing on 2010’s “Airplanes” with B.O.B and Zedd’s “Stay The Night” which stormed the charts earlier this year.

The 25 year old who was buzzing after hearing the news said:

“I can remember a time when I would’ve been made fun of for doing things differently. Now I’m getting an award for it? This is too much. I’m so excited.

“There are women in this industry who totally bulldozed walls down for the likes of me to come along and do what I believe in. I want to be that for even one girl in the future. I can’t wait for the event next month and to high-five some of my sisters in music.”

Other recipients at the event will include Ariana Grande for Rising Star and recognising Taylor’s recent chart smash across the pond, Taylor Swift will be honoured with Woman of the Year.

The Billboard Women In Music Awards will take place in NYC on December 12.
